The Bridge Homelessness to Hope has been awarded £15,000 from The Leicestershire County Council Big Society fund to assist The Bridge in working to establish an Emmaus Community in Leicestershire. There are already 21 Emmaus Communities in the UK offering a unique response to homelessness by going beyond providing accommodation but giving a home within a residential working community together with work on The Emmaus Social Enterprises, so creating the ongoing income to support the community. The aim is to break the cycle of homelessness and hopelessness for our Companions (as the residents are called). The funding is to enable the appointment of a part time fundraiser and advisor to study the feasibility of various proposed enterprises. We seek to raise £2.5m and are actively working towards this and will be hugely assisted by, and are extremely grateful for, this help from Leicestershire County Council.
