One thing about The Bridge being a local charity is that we often get support from local businesses that have a commitment to supporting the community and honouring their social responsibilities.
Welcomm Communications Limited is an award winning business communication specialist that started in 1989, based in Market Harborough. Throughout the years they’ve been involved in multiple volunteer days and fundraisers for different charities and non-profit organisations, from raising awareness for mental health issues, to fundraising for hospice through bake days and sponsoring local sculptures.
And for their latest community commitment Welcomm has chosen to join us on the 25th of March at our annual fundraiser The Big Sleep! We got a chance to speak with Francesca and Maria from the People and Culture Department about all that they do for charity, and how they felt about sleeping out for a night to raise money to support The Bridge.
“For the past couple of years we’ve had days where we encourage staff to participate in community events. At the end of last year the volunteer scheme got revamped, it became more of a team bonding opportunity which meant a greater uptake.”
We spoke about some of their favourite charity events they’d been involved with in the past, and they told us about the time they worked with the Street Soccer Foundation, which helps youths come out of homelessness and into employment through football organisations organising community employment. It was the biggest homelessness charity they had worked with so far.

Francesca and Maria reflected on the fact that previous events had included cooking, painting, and helping with decorating, but nothing as challenging as sleeping outside. Currently Welcomm is putting together a team of ten to attend The Big Sleep, and none of them have ever done a sleep out before. When asked what made them want to take on the challenge they said they wanted to do it because it feels more real.
“If I can make a difference in one person's life, I'll push myself beyond every comfort zone to do it. If that means jeopardising my sleep to raise money for someone in need then I will do it every time.” - Joseph Turner, Data Analyst.
Joseph is always participating in Welcomm CSR (Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility) events and is dedicated to supporting the community.
When asked how they found out about The Big Sleep they told us that they had previously sponsored a friend last year, a volunteer at The Bridge, Julie. During The Big Sleep 2024 Julie raised over £500! And now she’s inspired a team of people to join this year, with the target of £1000, and the determination to go even higher. With 10% of the company's workforce joining us, we’re sure they can smash their goal!
Fundraisers like The Big Sleep are crucial in ensuring that we can stay open every week, to provide hot meals, clean clothes, showers, computers, and case workers to those experiencing homelessness and living vulnerably. By supporting us Welcomm Communications Limited are supporting our guests as we work to find help and solutions to whatever they are currently struggling with. We want to say a huge thank you to Francesca, Maria, and the rest of their team for their amazing commitment to The Bridge. We're proud to work with a local company that puts community at the heart of their values, and we hope to work with them more in the future.
