Leicester-based charity, The Bridge Homelessness to Hope, has won a public vote to become the Local Charity of the Year for Sainsbury’s Glen Road store in Oadby, for the second consecutive year.
Since 2009, Sainsbury’s stores have each selected a Local Charity of the Year with which to partner. These collaborative partnerships include a range of support such as awareness-raising and fundraising in store, volunteering and donations. The Bridge Homelessness to Hope was nominated, shortlisted by the Sainsbury’s store and won a public vote online.
Last year, the Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the Year initiative supported events such as a sponsored firewalk and helped to raise over £3,200 for the charity. All contributions from this year’s partnership will help The Bridge Homelessness to Hope to provide food, and organise health and well-being activities for Leicester’s homeless community to help to integrate them back into society.
Debbie Guttridge, Store manager at Sainsbury’s Glen Road, said: “We’re really excited to be working with The Bridge Homelessness to Hope again, supporting such a fantastic cause. Everyone at Glen Road Oadby is looking forward to working together for a successful partnership.”
Keith Lawson-West, Trustee at The Bridge Homelessness to Hope added: “We were delighted to receive the news that the general public had voted for us as Sainsbury’s Local Charity of the Year again. Last year, the partnership raised some much-needed funds for our work to support the homeless community in Leicester and we hope to continue this good work with the Glen Road store throughout this next year.”
