The Big Sleep, an annual charity sleep-out event for students and staff from the University of Leicester and De Montfort University, and local businesses, has been postponed as a precaution against the coronavirus.
The Big Sleep raises funds for The Bridge Homelessness to Hope, a Leicester-based homeless charity and was due to take place on Thursday 26 March 2020 at the University of Leicester and De Montfort University campuses in Leicester. The event will now be rescheduled in autumn 2020.
The Big Sleep involves volunteers spending the night under the stars for a taste of what street homelessness might be like – with only cardboard, a sleeping bag, flasks and the clothes on their back for warmth.
For any questions relating to the postponement of The Big Sleep (from an operational or sponsorship perspective), please email David Fawcett at The Bridge Homelessness to Hope.
David Fawcett, Executive Operations Manager at The Bridge Homelessness to Hope commented: “The Big Sleep raises much-needed funds for the city’s homeless community but in the light of the current coronavirus precautions about group activities, and after consulting with our hosts at the University of Leicester and De Montfort University, we have taken the decision to postpone the event in March and reschedule in the autumn term.”
